Build a Fizz Inflator

This activity is simple and organized. The educational value of this lesson is a fun experience in learning how to build a fizz inflator for elementary students. This activity can be done with very few supplies. Overall, the quality of the content is in-depth and user friendly for all elementary students.

This is a classic experiment which is a great way to introduce chemical change to younger kids. The supplies are usually pretty readily available. During this time of the pandemic, baking soda may be a tad hard to find, but otherwise, very easy to do and a lot of fun. The video companion is also well made and appealing.

Chemical reactions are always fun, and this is a very simple reaction. The video does a really good demonstration on the set up of the experiment and provides suggestions on how to change and measure different variables of the experiment for further exploration. I think the video is also good to show that he had to try it a few times before he succeeded on getting the balloon inflated.

This is outstanding visual demonstration of a simple test that can be used to show why or how something happens. It is a great opportunity to use the scientific method to hypothesis and make predictions, which can then be evaluated after the experiment has concluded. The activity calls for materials that are readily available around the house, but they can also be easily substituted (i.e. the “balloon” can be any airtight material which can be secured to the top of the container). The resource offers a video and step-by-step directions, making this activity accessible to scholars of all ages. It also has a review portion that explains the science behind the activity.

This is a great resource with easy to follow instructions and visuals. Materials are fairly easy to obtain, but if you do not have a balloon, a rubber glove or a bag with rubber band at the end would work well as a substitute.

It was easy enough to follow. My kids have wanted to do this in the past they already know vinegar and baking soda react. I like that we have everything in the house already.

This experiment was selected by my son because he wanted to “mix things” and I knew we had the necessary materials at home. My 5 1/2 year old was giddy during the entire experiment and LOVED every minute of it...even the failures as we had to do it a few times until the balloon didn’t break as we put it on the bottle. I realized after a couple tries we should “pre-load” a few balloons and take them outside where we were doing the experiment which made things much quicker. Super easy and super fun!

This was awesome. Only problem was that since we are shelter in, it was hard to find a soda bottle. We had to be creative with bottle. Other than that, kids loved it!
